Where are my shoes designed and made?
Carel is a French company whose offices and creation team are located in Paris since the brand was born in 1952.
At Carel, we respect shoemakers’ ancient traditions. Our shoes are entirely made in Italy, in small workshops which have been our partners for many years. Our workers create your shoe from beginning to end, i.e. from cutting to packaging, and use leather coming from local tanneries. Some of our shoes are made in Spain or Portugal in the same conditions. In any case, the origin of the shoe is always written on the sole.
What are the materials used?
Carel shoes and leather goods are always made of full-grain high quality leather, except of course if the model is made of fabric. The label on the box specifies the type of leather used: calfskin, kid, lambskin… It also indicates the texture: suede, spazzolato (brushed leather for a shiny finish), patent, printed etc.
Our shoes usually have a lining; the lining is always made of genuine leather as well as the insole.
The sole can be made of leather, sometimes with a rubber insert or half sole to prevent them from being slippery. They can also be made of natural rubber, especially winter shoes, so that your shoes resist to any weather and do not wear out too fast. Thick studded soles are usually made of Vibram, an innovative material which is both very light and insulating, perfect to protect your feet from the cold.
Our Carel shoe boxes, with their black and white canework pattern, are made of recycled cardboard. For environmental reasons, we decided not to cover them with a plastic film. They are made in Italy as well.
Finally, our shoe care products are made in France.
